Working with Tools and Making a Table

Hello viewers! In this series my friend and I will be teaching all of you how to use tools safely and efficiently. We are currently one video into the series and you can view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoV1noKc-Xw

In this video I (Alex) will teach you what to wear when working with tools or when you are making anything that requires some protection. First off, you will need to get rid of anything that can get in the way when you are working. These things include: Laces on your jacket, earbud wires, or even your watch.

Now I will list out the things that you will need to wear.

Safety Goggles or Glasses:
or

Working Gloves:
or

Long Pants:
or

I recommend wearing tight fitted clothes like long sleeves and long pants so that if anything gets onto you, it will not irritate your skin or hurt you. Remember that it is better to be safe than sorry.

Alright, lets get started on making a table. You will need to get yourself a clamp. A clamp is what holds down the material you are working on in order to give you a more stable working space. In the video I use a vice. You will need to get yourself a saw (preferably a tooth saw). In order to use this tool, you will need to line yourself up in a way so that if you accidentally swing down it will not strike your leg and injure you. Make sure to get your non-active hand (the hand that's not holding the saw) out of the way. Start off slow and steady and stay like that in order to get a good cut. Make sure your cut is straight.
Steps to making the table:
The first step in making the table is to secure the wood in the clamp. Measure 2 feet (I said 3 feet in the video, sorry!). Cut with saw. Do this 3 more times and you have the legs of the table. In the next video and blog I will explain how to smooth down the surface of the wood with a file and sandpaper. Do not throw away the excess wood.

Materials:
2"x 4"x 8' lumber x 6
Clamp
Saw
Sandpaper
File
Drill
Oil for Lumber
Tape Measure
Pencil

This sums up our first blog post on this series and make sure to be safe, have fun!
